In the hubbub of the city there is a haven : Tsarasaotra birdlife sanctuary, home to about 70 different species of birds among which the rarest Malagasy pond heron and the Meller's duck.
Only 2 hours drive from Antananarivo, Anjozorobe forest, one of the last vestiges of dense rainforest on the highland, is a source of life for the population. This site is home to a huge biodiversity: with its 11 species of lemur ( Indri, Diademed Sifaka, Mouse Lemur…), 82 bird species ( among which 43 are endemic), this forest is a dreamland for nature lovers and birdwatchers.
The lemur’s park, especially suitable for photographers, a 4ha large zoo where different species of lemurs living in free can be seen.
Last but not least, handicraft markets and souvenir shops are as well worth a visit for a wide range and high quality of the Malagasy handicrafts : wood carving, embroidery, leather goods, baskets, gemstones, the unique “Antaimoro” paper ...in brief so pretty things that will remind you Madagascar, besides your beautiful photos.
